About Project Runway:

Initially 12 participants contest against each other by creating the best clothes within the given material, time period and theme.

Their designs are judged by the Jury Panel which had some most imminent names from the Fashion industry like- Heidi Klum, Zac Posen and Nina Garcia. Based on their judgment one designer is eliminated every week. Finally, towards the end only 3 contestants are left to compete for the final round. These three finalists prepare a complete fashion collection of twelve looks to be presented at New York Fashion Week in Bryant Park. The finalists are given 12 weeks and $8000 for this task, which they perform at their own homes or studios. Prior to the final runaway the contestants come for a short meeting with their models and make sure that the hair do and styling is done as per their demands only. Now, based on the outcome of their long engagement in designing performance a winner is chosen from among them. The winner receives $100,000 to start his or her own design line, a feature spread in Marie Claire magazine, a mentorship from a design firm or the optional opportunity to sell his or her collection on bluefly.com. The last few seasons also rewarded the winner with a new car sponsored by automobile company Saturn.

The first five seasons of the show were shot in New York and in Paris for certain challenges. With the change in the genre of the show the location was also shifted to Los Angeles.
The show had run for 15 successful seasons and in May 2016, Lifetime renewed the show for three seasons more (16-18) in a deal with Weinstein Co.
